How to pick a photobooth company?

Choosing the Right Photo Booth Company

Picking a photo booth company for your wedding or special event is like choosing any other vendor—you want it to be perfect. So where do you start?

Maybe you begin with a Google search or browse vendor directories. You read reviews, request a few quotes—or maybe a dozen—and suddenly, you're overwhelmed. Prices are all over the place, and it's hard to tell what's a good deal or what’s actually included.

The truth is, every company prices their services differently, based on what they offer and what makes sense to their business model. So instead of comparing prices blindly, start by asking yourself: What’s important to me?

  • Do I want printed photos?

  • Am I looking for a specific style of booth?

  • What’s my budget?

  • How long do I need it at the event?

These questions will help guide you toward the right fit.

Keep in mind, many photo booth companies advertise attractive base prices—until you start adding essentials. Prints? Often an upgrade. Backdrops? You might only get a few basic options unless you pay extra for a premium one. It’s not that companies are being shady—it’s just important to understand what you’re actually getting.

In my opinion, there are three must-haves for a successful photo booth experience:

  1. The Booth Itself - Have you seen photos or videos of it? Is it an iPad setup, a DSLR camera, or a basic webcam? The quality of your photos starts here.

  2. Prints - Most guests love receiving a physical print. Ironically, many will take a photo of their print and leave it behind—but the desire for that instant keepsake is still strong.

  3. Backdrops - Backdrops do more than look good. They enhance lighting by reflecting it back into the camera—especially important in low-light venues. They also help create a theme or set the tone for your photos.

Extras like props, GIFs, filters, or guest books can add a unique flair—but make sure your basics are covered before diving into the add-ons.

A few other things to consider:

  • Responsiveness: Do they reply within 24 hours? That’s a good sign. If you’re waiting days for a response, they may not be the best fit—especially for a time-sensitive event.

At the end of the day, it comes down to your priorities. Hopefully, this helped you think a bit more critically before booking. The last thing you need is added stress from a photo booth company that doesn't deliver.

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reply—I’m happy to help.
